Universal Joints Couplings

What is Universal Joint?

SSPTP is one of the leading manufacturers of universal joints which is a joint or coupling that connects rigid rods having axes inclined to each other. It is commonly used in shafts that transmit rotary motion. Universal joint manufacturers pair it in the form of hinges located close together, directed perpendicularly at 90° to each other, and connected by a cross shaft.

Universal joint manufacturers around the world, and SSPTP being one of them, design these joints as device that link one or more rotating shafts together, allowing the transmission of torque and rotary motion.

It transmits power between two points that are not in line with each other.

The universal joint is considered to be one of the oldest of all flexible couplings. A universal joint consists of two shaft couplings perpendicular to each other and a four-point cross which connects the couplings.

SSPTP, as one of the leading universal joints manufacturers, are known to be experts in precise engineering and using the latest design technologies. We manufacture the joint as a single-piece, closed bearing eye design, assuring the highest degree of strength and minimum distortion under load.

Types of Universal Joints

There are two types of universal joints, based on their number of bending joints:

  • Single type universal joints have only one bending aspect and is capable of operating at up to a 45-degree angle, unlike double type.
  • Double type universal joints utilize two bending joints, the double type universal joint can operate at angles up to 90 degrees.

Features of Universal Joints

As one of the trusted Universal joints manufacturers, we manufacture both single and double type universal joints that have several unique features that make them ideal for a variety of applications.

  • Both single and double type have the ability to operate at high misalignment angles
  • Universal coupling is more flexible than other joints.
  • It transmits torque between shafts which have angular misalignment
  • It has the bearing and seal design that resists lubrication loss and contamination
  • High torque capacity and long bearing life
  • Torque transmission efficiency is high
  • The joint permits angular displacements
  • High operating angle capability
  • Eliminates unnecessary bolted connections and serrations
  • Ideal for loading across entire bearing length due to balanced deflection between couplings and cross
  • It is cheap and cost-effective
  • It is simple to be assembled and dismantled

Application of Universal Joint

  • Universal joints are perfectly suitable for applications where severe atmospheric conditions would put other couplings at a distinct disadvantage
  • Double type universal Joint is used in the propeller shaft of rear-wheel-drive cars
  • Used in aircraft, appliances, and control systems
  • Electronics, Instrumentation, and textile machinery
  • Medical and optical equipment
  • Radios, weapons, sewing machines and tool drives
  • Used to create a flexible connection between two rigid shafts perpendicular to each other
  • It allows the transmission of constant fluctuating power
  • It connects the propeller shaft with the gearbox shaft to transmit the rotary motion
  • It is commonly known for its use on automobiles and trucks
